SEAN MURPHY
Sean originally became involved in women’s football in the early 2000s after his mother, Ruth Murphy, founded the first women’s football team in Maine. That early connection sparked a lifelong passion for the game and led to more than a decade of active involvement. From the early 2000s through 2012, Sean served in a variety of roles, ranging from sideline staff to administrative leadership, helping to grow and support women’s football across the state.
After a 13-year hiatus from women’s football, Sean returned in 2025 to join the Maine Mayhem, bringing extensive experience in coaching, administration, and organizational leadership at the middle school and high school levels. His responsibilities extended well beyond on-field instruction; at the high school level, he oversaw player management, supported staff coordination, and contributed to overall program operations, building a strong foundation in leadership, evaluation, and long-term program development. During this time, Sean also completed his degree in Social Services with a minor in Psychology, further strengthening his ability to lead, mentor, and support athletes and staff both on and off the field.
As Director of Coaching Personnel, Sean plays a key role in supporting overall program operations, providing strategic oversight of coaching personnel while contributing to organizational structure, leadership, and football operations.
His extensive experience brings strong leadership and a focus on long-term organizational goals, making him instrumental to the continued growth and success of the Maine Mayhem.

SUPPORT SEAN!
The coaching and administrative staff of the Maine Mayhem are all volunteers. The team competes in the Women’s Football Alliance, a national women’s football league with over 60 teams around the country. The cost of running the team now exceeds $45,000 per year based on the fees for training facilities, game day field rentals, insurance, league fees, travel and many other. Please consider supporting our volunteer staff as they incur many personal expenses in running the team. The Maine Mayhem thank you for your support! The team and our players could not be successful without your help. You can receive your benefits at the gate of any of our home games or request that your person you are sponsoring send/deliver them to you.
